Apex Automation Frequently Asked Questions More Questions? Submit it here. Auto ID and Scale Watcher Q: What type of improvements have customers seen once adding Auto ID and ALPR (Automatic License Plate Recognition)? • Customers using automation in their plants can expect to see: o Reduced errors (saving time not only at the scale, but also in the back office) o Shorter time in plant, leading to more loads per day per vehicle and lower freight cost per load) o Happier customers (able to deliver loads more quickly) o Happier drivers (drivers can get more loads out with less frustration) Q: Can you use ALPR and a KIOSK to check in or is it one or the other? • Some locations would allow them to check in at the kiosk and select the load but from there can they use ALPR from there. Q: Does Apex Auto ID work with just our trucks? Or can it work with 3rd party trucks too • Apex can be used with all vehicles. Q: For the ALPR trucks, are there any issues with "flat" license plates versus raised? • For ALPR, a flat plate is the same as a raised plate. As long as the numbers are visible, ALPR can read them. Q: Do you have locations with colder climates using ALPR? • Yes, we do. Please see comment on the next question related to dust/dirt, the same is applicable to snow. Q: What about dust/dirt? • With ALPR, for the system to read the plate, you would have to be able to do the same. If you are having issues with plates that are not legible, we can discuss options. For instance, a wheel wash might be used to also clean the plate, etc. Q: We are currently using TransCore with Dividia cameras. How easy is the transition to ALPR? • With a bit of software licensing, as well as a possible camera switch for more reliable plate recognition, it takes very little time to get this going. Q: If I already have Scale Watcher, is it easy to add ALPR? • Short answer: "Yes". • Long answer: Base Scale Watcher takes photos of the vehicle during the ticketing process. In order to add ALPR, we will just need to upgrade the front view camera to a high-resolution camera which reads the actual characters of the license plate. Wireless Loader Q: Are you still offering a device or site access for the loaders to view the trucks? • Yes! Our Wireless Loader software can be used to view vehicles in the plant for the loader to know who is there, what they need, how much to load, and how long they've been in the plant. Q: What kind of tablets work with wireless loader? • The application is browser based. Android, iOS, or Windows are supported. Apple iPads are likely the most common we see, but we have also seen plenty of Samsung Galaxy devices as well as Panasonic Toughbooks. Q: Do you have to have Wi-Fi for the tablets, or can they run on cellular? • Most of our customers will run Wireless Loader via cellular service. However, we do also have customers that deploy Wi-Fi throughout their plant (at least where trucks are being loaded). Wi-Fi is simpler to setup from an IT perspective, but cellular is often much easier to setup from a plant perspective.
