The truck driver shortage is real in 2019, and growing worse. More and more drivers reach retirement age with the average age of a commercial truck driver equaling 55 years old. According to the American Trucking Associations, America will be short 175,000 drivers by 2026. 

The truck driver shortage is exacerbated by our booming economy. Truck drivers are needed in every industry, including ours. Without improving the driver shortage, companies can be at risk of lowering their profitability.

There is a push today to lower the age limit for a commercial driver license so that younger drivers can be recruited. Lowering the regulated driving age would allow more young people to enter the industry and potentially eliminate the driver shortage.
