Best Practices to Safely "Share the Road"

August 16, 2018 Pete Dube

A new and recurring innovation for haulers, particularly in the ready mix concrete industry, is the advent of side rails, guards, or as one company that manufactures the hardware, has branded "People Panels," that help protect pedestrians and cyclists that are sharing the road.

In some Metro areas, the traffic of trucks, pedestrians, and cyclists can tend to be a bit crowded.  Ready-Mix truck drivers sit up above their friends on the road, it can be difficult to notice when a cyclist or pedestrian enters their "blind spot."  When this unfortunate series of events occur, the side panel initiative, helps prevent the person from being pulled under the truck, which can result in devastating consequences.

There are several "share the road" programs that are being sponsored by various producers to help educate the public of the challenges and best practices to remember when they are near these heavy vehicles.
