Women Building Amazing

Pushing the Boundaries in the Industry, Advancing Beyond the Conventional Build

What a week it has been for women – inside and outside of the heavy building materials (HBM) industry.

2018 Women in Construction Week

The annual Women in Construction (WIC) week started March 4th and runs through March 10th. The idea of this week-long event is to raise awareness around the increasingly important role of women in the construction industry and highlight the various opportunities available to women in the field. Per the National Association of Women in Construction, at the end of 2016, women made up 9.1% of the construction industry. The idea of WIC week is to focus on women in an industry that is predominantly male.

Women are finding their place in the industry, and it is important to recognize the different skill sets that both men and women bring to the table. By acknowledging and accommodating these differences, businesses can capitalize on the wide array of complementary skills that a balanced workforce can bring to the benefit of all.

108th Annual International Women’s Day

March 8th marked the 108th International Women’s Day – a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities. This day is all about unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy and action. There is power in being a woman and knowing that your voice matters.

Building Amazing Women Initiative

And women’s voices do matter. So much progress has been made in the large scheme, and to scale that down to a much smaller picture; so much progress has been made in the HBM industry. In an industry that is predominantly male, women are strapping on work boots, rolling up their sleeves, and contributing to building the amazing world that we live in. Command Alkon hears your voice, and we want to amplify it. This is a story that we want to help tell.

Over the next few weeks, we will be highlighting women who are vital elements to the construction process, whether thats administrative specialists, general contractors, subcontractors, tradespeople or professionals.  If you are a woman in the industry, and you would like for your story to be told, contact klangner@commandalkon.com to start a conversation.
