Jay Shilstone Discusses How to Retain Close Relationships with Your Partners, Drive Value, and Get Customer Insights in the Process

The fuel that stokes the fire in every close partnership is trust and an understanding that you have each other’s back. You’re just as much concerned about their bottom line as you are your own.

One of Venveo’s recent Smarter Building Materials Marketing podcasts, featuring Command Alkon, stated “one of the ways that you can get closer to your customer is by using technology that helps them do their job more effectively.”

This is one of the “secret sauces” that we preach to our customers. When you invest in your customer’s success, you both get a big return. Command Alkon has had many wonderful experts and consultants over the years, and Jay Shilstone is one that we are proud to call our own after over 40 years in the industry.

Everyone has their passions, and QC is definitely one of Jay’s. He can’t help it, really – he’s a third generation in concrete quality control. His grandfather started a testing lab in 1908 in New Orleans, where Jay spent some time before he went to work for his father in 1977.

Jay is the product owner for COMMANDqc, Command Alkon’s quality control solution, and he has been involved with computerized software for concrete quality control for 39 out of the 43 years that he has been in the industry.

Jay was asked what advice he would give to anybody in the heavy work space that wants to extend the value of their product and services with technology. Of course, his answer was centered around the partnership between a buyer and a seller, because supplier/buyer collaboration is truly what sets organizations apart.

“You must understand the value that the technology presents to your customer and how it helps to improve their operations, efficiency, and cost effectiveness…that is what is going to get you into the market and keep you in the market. “
