As most in our industry know, concrete technology is slow to change, unless change is thrust upon us. Concerns about durability and a reduction in fly ash production have sparked an interest in alternative SCMs as well as new ways to determine if concrete will last a long time. The FHWA's Performance Engineered Mixtures initiative is examining new test methods that will help predict long-term durability. However, concrete materials and mix designs aren't the only QC initiatives underway. Building Information Modeling (BIM) and the FHWA's eConstruction movement are pushing concrete data away from paper and onto our computers. Learn how data interchange may be the "next big thing" that will impact concrete QC departments.
