Each year, the World of Concrete trade show outdoes itself. There is always something to experience – exciting exhibits, competitions, special events, educational programs, an insight into new products, networking, and so much more. There is certainly a lot to take away from this well-known industry event.
The CIM Auction at World of Concrete is an event whose purpose is dear to Command Alkon and many others in the industry. The auction benefits the CIM program – a business intensive program designed to combat the anticipated shortage of managers needed to support the expected growth of the concrete industry. Each year, several industry players donate various items – from equipment and supplies, to exciting vacation and sports packages, personal computers and TVs, concrete trucks and mixers, cement, admixtures, electronics, software, forms, tools, pumps, power screeds, generators, and all-inclusive packages for a weekend getaway. It is not an overstatement to say there is always something for everyone.
What sets the auction apart is that you don’t have to physically be there to participate, which means you can bid on items while perusing through booths or relaxing in your hotel room. The National Steering Committee partners with GiveSmart — a user-friendly bidding technology service to run and manage charity silent auctions. With GiveSmart, participants can register for the auction, sneak preview silent and live auction items, make a donation, and bid on their favorite silent auction items immediately.
The auction was held on Wednesday, January 23 with both a silent auction and a live auction. According to CIM Marketing Committee Chairman Brian Gallagher, the 2018 auction was the best ever, raising a record-breaking $1.1 million in gross revenue. I could tell from the large crowd that gathered to support the 2019 CIM Auction that the record would be broken once again.
I was right – this year proved to be another record-breaking year for total auction revenues. While the accountants are still in the process of verifying the information, the records of the event show a preliminary total of $1.2 million in gross revenues raised!
As in previous years, Command Alkon donated a COMMANDbatch system to be auctioned off. The system went for $23,500, and was secured by Randy Caillier of A&A Ready Mix.
“Our Company is happy to support the CIM Program and we were excited to participate in this year’s Auction in Las Vegas. We are pleased to have won the COMMANDbatch system and look forward to using it soon. We hope to continue to support this great program through membership, contributions and events like this.” - Randy Caillier, Vice President at A&A Ready Mix
